The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a man that died in a boating accident on Lake Sylvia in Melrose Township on Sunday. Dale Urban Steinemann, 47 of New Munich, passed away after the boat he was operating flipped onto its side.
At 2:15 p.m. Sunday, a woman reported she and other witnesses heard the sound of a boat clearing the water. According to the Stearns County Sheriff’s report, “when they looked out onto the lake they saw a speed boat on its side and watched as an occupant was thrown from the boat.”
The witnesses responded to the scene and pulled two juveniles, a 10-year-old male and a 7-year-old male, from the water. The boys were not injured and were later transferred to CentraCare-Melrose for observation. The boys were the sons of Steinemann’s girlfriend.
The witnesses were unable to locate Steinemann. The Melrose Rescue Squad and Stearns County deputies responded, but were unable to locate him on Sunday, with divers searching until dark.
The search resumed this morning and in a report released at 10:05 a.m., it was stated Steinemann had been found. According to the report, his body will be transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiners’ Office for an autopsy.
