LaVina Marie Walz
LaVina Marie Marthaler Walz passed peacefully, surrounded by her family at Parkview Nursing home on Feb. 25, 2017.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Wilson, Wis. with Father John Long as celebrant. Visitation will be held Thursday from 9 to 11 at church prior to services. Private interment will be at a later date at St. John’s Catholice Cemetery Glenwood City, Wis.
LaVina was born to Alphonse and Dorothy Marthaler on June 22, 1930, in Saskatchewan, Canada. The family later moved to Meire Grove, Minn. where they raised LaVina and her five siblings. She graduated from Melrose High School and on Oct. 25, 1948, she married Leander (Lindy) Walz. The couple was blessed with four children, who were raised on their farm outside of Glenwood City, Wis.
Besides farming with her husband, LaVina worked various jobs in the community throughout her lifetime. She worked for Circatron (later Fabritec). She then waitressed for many years at the Bobber Cafe (later the Brownwood). Later, she went to work at the Town and Country women’s store. Her last employment was at Nilssen’s grocery store. LaVina enjoyed crocheting, spending time with her family and was devoted to her Catholic faith. She paid meticulous attention to her yard and enjoyed time outside sitting in her chair or visiting with her neighbors. She loved to bake and always had treats to offer visitors.
LaVina was preceded in death by her husband Leander and her parents. She is survived by: her children, Susan (Larry) Gilbertson, Charles (Jan) Walz, Joseph (Gloria) Walz and John Walz; her grandchildren, Corine Stanway, Gabe (Christa) Walz, Karla (Nathan) Gilbertson, Tim (Gretchen) Gilbertson, Laura (Nate) Rendall, Jenna (Jarod) Evan, Dayna Walz, Jonathan Walz, Riley Walz and Bailey Walz; great-grandchildren, Payton Gilbertson, Haidyn and Langston Walz, Louise, Brady and Anne Gilbertson, Paige Stanway and Quentin Rendall; sisters, Clarine Stalberger, Dorothy Lembeck, Jan (Will) Kahlstrom; brothers Melvin (Lucille) Marthaler, Dennis Marthaler. She is also survived by her special canine companion, Rocco.
