Holly Hellermann kept the lane open for Ashley Rademacher (20), who scored four points in Tuesday night’s game.

Lady Dutchmen Basketball

Minnewaska hot shooting and good defense, combined with some cold shooting by the Lady Dutchmen resulted in a 78-42 loss Tuesday night at Melrose. Maci Blommel had 13 points for Melrose. Gabby Graves followed with nine. Minnewaska had 31 field goals, 12 were three pointers.

Dutchmen Basketball

The Melrose Dutchman moved to 12-0 defeating a tough St. Cloud Cathedral team 56-50.  It is the second time this year Melrose topped the Crusaders at home.  Dillon Haider scored 20 points to lead Melrose. The score was close all game along. Melrose led 24-20. The Dutchmen spread the scoring around with nine-of-the-11 players who came into the game.

Fusion

The Fusion topped both Morris and Perham in swimming tonight. Spencer Van Beck and Isaac Schreiner both won two events.

Melrose Rosettes


The Melrose Rosettes kick team had the style, grace and timing to take first at the Melrose Invite.

The Melrose Rosettes Varsity Kick and Varsity Jazz teams both finished first at the Melrose Invite Monday night. The junior varsity kick team finished first in its division. More on the teams will appear in the Jan. 25 issue of the Beacon.

Lady Dutchmen Gymnastics

The Melrose Lady Dutchmen gymnasts turned in another solid performance in their 145.65-127.675 win over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville Thursday evening.  Kayla Austing was solid in all routines winning the vault, beam and floor routines to take the all-around title. Mady Brinkman tied a school record with a 9.8 on the vault. More information appears in the Jan. 16 issue of the Melrose Beacon.

Fusion Swimming

A strong showing by the diving corp helped the Fusion to a 100-86 win over Montevideo on Thursday. Sam Heller and Leo Braun finished 1-2 in diving. Others taking first were Dylan Fleischhacker in the 200IM, Kenny Warzecha in the 50FS, Isaac Schreiner in the 100FS and Spencer Van Beck in the 500FS. Fleischhacker’s 200IM time of 1:05.84 was his best ever.

Lady Dutchmen Basketball

Melrose Area fell 59-51 at Morris on Thursday.

Lady Dutchmen Basketball

The Lady Dutchmen made it three in a row with a 53-40 win over Benson Friday night in Melrose. The game was a close one early and was tied at 25 when the half time buzzer sounded. Cassie Klaphake tied the score at the buzzer with three point shot. Klaphake led the team in scoring with 16 points. Melrose has had a double-digit game from Maci Blommel, 15, and Gabby Graves, 11. Free throws were a big difference the Lady Dutchmen hit 15-of-22 attempts. Benson was two-of-six.

Prairie Centre North Stas.

Hunter Fletcher had two goals and Noah Fletcher and Hudson Pung each had an assist in a 6-2 loss to Breckenridge/Wahpeton Friday night.

Dutchmen Basketball

Melrose-The Dutchmen broke a spell of sorts Sauk Centre had them to take 75-65 win Thursday. The score was 29-26 at half-time with Melrose leading. Sauk Centre and Melrose exchanged lead into the second half before Melrose pulled away for the 10 point win. Dillon Haider attacking from the outside, led the Dutchmen with 21 points. Brady Birch, working from the inside scored 20 points.  Melrose is now 9-0 on the year

SCM Wrestling

The SCM Wrestling team defeated Morris Area-Hancock/Chokio-Alberta 42-28. Ottertail Central topped SCM 39-25.

North Star Hockey

Despite a hat trick by Petr Erhart and a two goals by Hunter Fletcher, the North Stars fell 6-5 to Willmar. The North Stars fell 8-2 to Alexandria on Tuesday night. Goals by Cole Crosby and Noah Fletcher had goals for Prairie Centre

Lady Dutchmen

The Lady Dutchmen are the 2016 Upsala Tournament Champions defeating Concordia Academy 65-64 this afternoon.

The team traded runs, scores and lead with Melrose Area literally scoring the last point. Whitney Austing hit her second free throw of the game breaking a 64-64 tie with 37 seconds left.  Austing and Maci Blommel both scored 18 in the game. Makiya Luetmer was a perfect 3-for-3 from the line added 11 points and Cassi Klaphake, who along with Austing hit three-point shots, scored 10 points.

Dutchmen Basketball

The Melrose Dutchmen could bring another championship as they defeated Litchfield 80-52 in the semi-finals of the St. Cloud Cathedral Holiday Tournament. Dillon Haider led Melrose with 34 points. Hunter Rieland added 18. The Dutchmen took the lead early in the game and never trailed. The championship will be at 7:15 Thursday, Dec. 29 at St. Cloud Cathedral

Melrose High School Sports

The Dutchmen downed Mandan, ND 73-62 in the quarter-finals of the St, Cloud Cathedral Tournament.   .  Melrose faces Litchfield Dec. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at Cathedral in the semi-finals. Unofficial scoring leaders for Melrose were: Dillon Haider, 25, Brady Birch, 14, Francisco Cervantes 12.

The Lady Dutchmen also won in their first round topping McGregor 33-18 in the Upsala Tournament. Melrose faces Concordia Academy Dec. 28 at 3 p.m, in the championship

Melrose High School Sports


Assistant coach Jeremy Berscheit watched as Melrose’s Kayla Austing launched herself into first place on the vault during the meet with Willmar.

It was a busy night for Melrose winter sports athletes and the Lady Dutchmen gymnastics and basketball teams, the Dutchmen basketball team, the Prairie Centre North Star hockey team and the Sauk Centre-Melrose wrestlers were all in action.

Lady Dutchmen gymnastics

The Lady Dutchmen gymnastics team took the top two spots in all routines as they scored a 144.925-139.9 win over Willmar Thursday night.  It was on of their better scores of the year.  Taking first were Mady Brinkman, bars, beam and all-around; and Kayla Austing, vault and floor.

Dutchmen Basketball

Led by 25 points from Dillon Haider and 14 by Reegan Nelson, the Dutchmen remained unbeaten with an impressive 66-31 win over Albany Thursday night.

Prairie Centre North Stars

The North Stars earned their first win of the year defeating Morris 5-1.  Noah Fletcher scored twice for Prairie Centre.
